« A sail plan inspired by the latest Open 60’s and Volvo 70’s »
Unlike most of today’s sportsboats, the rotating carbon wing mast is stepped well aft in the boat. This allows for a huge jib. At 17.5 m² it gives power and stability to the K650, especially upwind in waves. The forestay tension is adjustable under sail thanks to a powerful block and tackle purchase.
The jib sheet is trimmed without a winch using instead a block and tackle purchase. It is quick and efficient and allows to trim the jib from a hiking position. The sail can be furled.
The 23m² mainsail is on a carbon boom. Its high aspect ratio provides high aerodynamic efficiency.
The 65m² spinnaker is on a 2m retractable carbon bowsprit that also rotates in a custom made fitting in the bow. The boat planes early yet can still go deep downwind with the bowsprit swung back. |
